Guidelines for Puranava Art Competitions 2018

- ART OF STORYTELLING & VISUAL ART

Overall Age groups

  1. Level 0 – Pre-K level
  2. Level 1 – Grades K-4
  3. Level 2 – Grades 5-8
  4. Level 3 – Grades 9-12 and College undergrads
  5. Level 4 – Adults

ART OF STORYTELLING - COMPETITION

Topics

    1. Level 1- Grades K-4: An Indian folktale
      • Time Limit: 3 - 5 mins

Storytelling Competition Rules:

1. Participants will be judged on clarity of expression; ability to bring out emotion; relevance, value and authenticity of the story; body language; ability to hold the audience’s attention.

2. Participants must adhere to time limits. Participants will be penalized if they exceed time limits.

3. Use of script, cards or any other prompters/references are NOT allowed.

4. Source should be cited.

5. Winners may have a chance to present their story on the main stage.

 

VISUAL ART COMPETITION

Supplies

  • Participants should bring their own colors and supplies (unless otherwise specified below)
  • Stencils, stickers, or mechanical tools are NOT allowed for any category

Media and Themes for each Category:

1. Level 0 - Pre-K ages

  • COLORING COMPETITION (Free entry)
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Medium: Crayons (Bring your own)
  • Coloring sheet will be provided

2. Level 1 – Grade K-4  

  • THEME: Indian National Symbols
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Media => COLOR PENCILS
    • Bring your own color pencils
    • White blank paper will be supplied. Size: 8.5"x11"

2. Level 2 – Grades 5-8

  • THEME: “An Indian Scene”
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Media => WATER COLOR
    • Water color sheets will be provided. Size: 9"x12"
    • Paint: Water color only. (Bring your own paints). Water color pencils are allowed

3. Level 3 – Grades 9-12 and College undergrads

a.       DOODLING

  • THEME: Vibrant India
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • White blank paper will be supplied. Size: 8.5"x11"
  • Bring your own pencils, markers, colored pencils.

b.       DIGITAL ART

  • THEME: Five Elements
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Bring any software/drawing slate/laptop. Wi-Fi will not be available.
  • Artwork must be original
  • No copyrighted material can be used in artwork
  • Final submission must be a JPEG/PNG image.

4. Level 4 – Adults
 RANGOLI (Sand Art)

  • THEME: Indian Nature
  • Bring your own tools – filters, chalk, colored sand/powder
  • Bring a 4’x4’ plyboard/wood to use as base for the Rangoli piece
  • Up to 2 adults can team up together. Both must register individually for the event.
  • Up to 2 children are allowed to help each adult participant (optional)

NOTE:

  • Participants can bring a paper reference for art. No electronic media allowed as reference for coloring, painting and doodling competition.
  • Rules will be decided by organizing committee. Decisions are final and cannot be disputed.
  • Rules are subject to change. If rules are changed, participants will be notified via email
  • Judging will take place after all the categories are completed and the winners will be announced before the end of the day at the venue. Announcement will be made only at the venue. Organizing committee will not send any email or phone/text announcements.
  • Judges' decision will be final and cannot be disputed.

Registration and Check-in:

  • Advance online registration - $5 per participant per category (use below registration form)
  • If registering online for more than one category, please fill out this registration form separately for each event
  • Walk-in registration - $10 per participant per category
  • Check-in on the day of event is at 11.30 AM – Rogers Middle School, Pearland TX

Artwork and Photography Rights:

  • By participating in the Puranava Art Competition 2018, you agree to let us use photographs of you and/or your work at the event for promotional purposes. Your participation also allows us to use your submitted artwork in our future print or online publications, social media posts, flyers or other promotional material and for historical documentation. We will not directly sell reproductions of your work without your written permission.
